RICHARD 3 opens on the nuclear wasteland that was once the city of London and chronicles the ferocious internal power struggles that take place as the smoke is clearing and a new age is beginning. This is a future in which the young, vain, and beautiful have outlived the masses, and though all social norms have been eviscerated, they strive to develop their own makeshift hierarchy. The royal family is composed of haggard survivors whose world-views are drastically distorted by having lived only during wartime. Among them is nineteen-year-old Richard Gloucester, the black sheep of the family, who goes to brutal lengths to seize the throne – lying, betraying, seducing, and murdering both friends and foes along the way. Even at the end of the world, the fire of human ambition is smoldering. This new, anachronistic, musical adaptation plugs an amp into Richard’s searing conquest, cakes it with eyeliner, and lets it rock out.
